Bahati's Story

Bahati was born under both miraculous and tragic circumstances. Just moments after Bahati was born, her mother was attacked by a lion and her birth quickly turned into a struggle for survival. In the ensuing chaos, the newborn zebra was left alone, her tiny body still wet and the placenta lying beside her. Bahati’s fate could have taken a dire turn if not for the timely intervention of the Solio team who nursed her into the orphanage. She was given the name Bahati, meaning ‘lucky’ in Swahili because she is very fortunate to be alive.

Unfortunately, Bahati’s challenges continued. She developed a severe case of mites, which caused her great discomfort and led to significant fur loss. Her caretakers, determined to help her recover, applied coconut oil to her irritated skin, which provided much-needed relief and began the healing process.

Despite her rough start, Bahati proved to be a fighter. Under the watchful eyes of her dedicated caretakers, she is improving every day, her skin is healing, and the mite infestation has been brought under control.

Now three months old, Bahati is on a steady path to recovery. Her daily routine is meticulously planned to ensure she gets the nutrition and care she needs. She is fed 400ml of milk every two hours during the day and every three hours at night. This constant nourishment is vital for her growth and development.

Bahati has become a beloved member of the orphanage, her story touching the hearts of everyone who meets her. Her caretakers are hopeful that one day, she will be strong enough to join a new zebra herd in the wild, where she belongs.

For now, Bahati is surrounded by love and care, her journey a testament to the resilience of life and the dedication of those who work tirelessly to protect and nurture it.
