Work with Us
Solio Game Reserve offers a unique chance to make a real impact while gaining hands-on conservation experience. Join our team, support vital projects, and help protect Kenya’s natural treasures. Choose one or more departments and stay from two weeks up to three months. It is good to have a manual driving license and some off-road experience for certain volunteer activities.

Rhino Orphanage
Rescue & Rehabilitation: Wildlife Orphanage Volunteers
The orphanage is a place of compassion and second chances. Volunteers help care for baby animals and wildlife injured or displaced due to poaching or environmental threats. Daily tasks include bottle feeding, cleaning enclosures, enrichment activities, and offering emotional comfort through consistent care. You’ll work closely with experienced handlers and veterinarians. This department is emotionally intense but deeply rewarding for volunteers who want to make a direct and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable animals.

Women’s Empowerment / Community Outreach
Empower & Uplift: Women’s & Community Projects
Work with local women on creative, life-changing projects that boost confidence, income, and opportunity. Volunteers help make reusable sanitary kits, craft handmade jewelry, and support workshops that teach essential skills. These items are shared throughout the community, creating real impact. Whether you're crafting, collaborating, or connecting through stories and laughter, this experience brings you close to the heart of Solio — perfect for volunteers passionate about creativity, community, and empowerment.

Workshop Department
Keep It Running: Workshop Maintenance Team
The Workshop is the lifeline of Solio’s operations. As a volunteer here, you’ll assist with maintaining and repairing vital equipment such as vehicles, tools, water pumps, and generators. Daily tasks may include oil changes, welding, diagnostics, and even fabricating small parts. This department is perfect for hands-on individuals with mechanical aptitude or anyone eager to learn the technical skills that keep a conservation reserve functioning efficiently. You’ll work closely with experienced technicians, gaining practical knowledge while playing a critical role behind the scenes.

Fencing Department
Protecting Boundaries: Fencing Support Team
Fences are essential to protecting both wildlife and nearby communities. As part of the Fencing Department, you'll help construct and maintain electric and traditional fencing systems across the reserve. Your work will reduce human-wildlife conflict, support animal safety, and help manage designated grazing or protected zones. Expect physical, rewarding work in the field — digging posts, handling tools, patrolling fence lines, and helping with emergency repairs. This role is ideal for volunteers who love the outdoors and want to directly contribute to conservation infrastructure.

Livestock & Cattle Unit
Herd Health & Harmony: Livestock Care Team
Solio’s livestock unit plays a dual role in conservation and community engagement. Volunteers assist with feeding, herding, tagging, monitoring health, and helping during vaccinations or veterinary visits. You'll learn about sustainable ranching practices and help foster harmony between wildlife and agricultural activity. It’s a valuable experience for anyone interested in animal husbandry, rural development, or learning about the economic aspects of managing livestock in a protected environment.

Building Maintenance (Roads, Fences, Houses)
Structure & Support: Building Maintenance Crew
Whether it's fixing staff housing, maintaining access roads, or ensuring safety around reserve facilities, the Building Maintenance team is the unsung hero of daily operations. Volunteers can expect to help with masonry, carpentry, road grading, plumbing repairs, and small-scale construction projects. This is a perfect opportunity for those with practical skills (or those wanting to learn), who enjoy seeing the visible impact of their work. Each repair or improvement you make helps create a safer, more efficient environment for humans and wildlife alike.

Wildlife Monitoring
Tracking Life: Wildlife Monitoring Team
As part of the Wildlife Monitoring team, you’ll play a direct role in protecting endangered species. Volunteers assist with tracking animal movements using GPS devices, setting up and reviewing camera traps, identifying species, and recording vital ecological data. You may join patrols to observe rhinos, buffaloes, and birdlife in their natural habitats while learning about animal behavior and conservation techniques. This is a unique chance to contribute to wildlife research and gain insight into real-time data collection in the field.

Social Media & Marketing
Share the Mission: Digital Media & Marketing Team
Help tell the story of Solio to the world. Volunteers in this department capture photos and videos, write blog posts, design content for campaigns, and engage with online audiences. Your work will support fundraising, education, and awareness efforts. Whether you're experienced in digital storytelling or just love being creative, this department allows you to use your communication skills to support conservation — and leave with a portfolio of meaningful content and impact.

Sanctuary Office
Organize to Protect: Sanctuary Office Support
Not all conservation work happens in the wild — much of it relies on careful planning and organization. As a Sanctuary Office volunteer, you’ll support administrative functions such as data entry, filing, scheduling, guest coordination, and assisting with logistics. You may also help prepare reports or grant applications. This behind-the-scenes role is crucial for the smooth operation of the reserve and suits detail-oriented individuals who enjoy structure and efficiency.

Environmental (Reforestation / Fish Projects – Solio & Community)
Restore & Sustain: Environmental Initiatives Team
Join hands with nature to rebuild ecosystems. Volunteers help with tree planting, managing nurseries, and maintaining reforestation sites that are critical to habitat restoration. You may also support community-based fish farming projects, helping local families develop sustainable livelihoods. This role blends ecological work with community resilience and offers a hands-on way to combat climate change and environmental degradation at the grassroots level.

Veterinary Department
Wildlife Health: Veterinary Assistance Team
Work side-by-side with experienced vets as they treat and monitor wildlife across the reserve. Volunteers assist with medical procedures, monitor patient recovery, manage supplies, and record health data. Whether it’s helping with a tranquilized rhino or preparing for routine vaccinations, this department is ideal for aspiring vets, biology students, or animal lovers looking for direct, impactful experience in the field of wildlife medicine.
