Veterinary Care
Behind the scenes at Solio’s orphanage is a state-of-the-art Veterinary Facility, a quiet powerhouse of wildlife health, science, and compassionate care. This on-site clinic ensures that every orphaned animal receives regular monitoring, diagnostics, and tailored treatments. The focus is on preventive medicine, scientific research, and the rehabilitation of each orphan with the goal of releasing them back into the reserve.
Facilities and Daily Operations
The veterinary unit includes:
Laboratory
A fully equipped space for diagnostics, testing, and essential medical support.
Surgery Room
A sterile, professional space for procedures, treatments, and emergency care.
Diagnostic Tools
Used for blood, skin, urine, and stool tests to monitor health.
Weighing
A veterinary-grade scale is used to track the growth and health of each orphan.
These tools are used for routine health checks on all orphans. Each animal is monitored for key indicators to detect abnormalities early and support proper recovery and growth.
Monitoring Orphaned Rhinos
The orphaned rhinos at Solio receive focused veterinary care. Regular diagnostic tests help prevent disease, monitor stress levels, and guide nutrition and treatment when needed. This close observation supports the long-term health and well-being of each rhino in care.
Where Compassion and Science Work Together
The veterinary program at Solio is a vital part of the reserve’s conservation mission. It combines daily care, advanced diagnostics, and original research to protect the health of vulnerable animals. Every orphan is treated as an individual, with care grounded in both compassion and science.
