Kisima, our young impala, began his life with a dramatic and challenging start. During a particularly fierce rainy season, the rivers swelled beyond their banks, flooding the surrounding plains. It was during this deluge that Kisima, then a tiny and vulnerable calf, was discovered all alone, struggling in the turbulent waters.

The rangers, patrolling the area, spotted Kisima all alone amidst the floodwaters and brought him into the orphanage. The name "Kisima," which means "water" in Swahili, was chosen for him, a fitting tribute to the circumstance of his rescue.

The ultimate goal for Kisima is to return him to the wild, where he belongs.

 

The orphanage staff are preparing him for this transition by ensuring he retains his natural instincts and can fend for himself once he is released. They monitor his progress closely, providing opportunities for him to gradually acclimate to a more natural, less protected environment.
