On December 3rd, Maisha’s life changed forever. She was found alone, separated from her mother. We are not sure whether she was driven away by a dominant male rhino attempting to breed or if she was chased by lions. In her panic, she ended up trapped in a river, struggling to find a way out.

A dedicated team of 15 rescuers pursued her, working tirelessly to pull her to safety. Weak and frightened, Maisha took time to adjust to her new home, hesitant to trust her carers. She was in poor health, suffering from cloudy eyes and flaking, peeling skin, signs of the trauma and harsh conditions she had endured.

With all-round care from her dedicated carers, she was nursed back to health, gaining strength and confidence each day. She was given the name Maisha, meaning life—a perfect reflection of her incredible journey.Today, she is thriving, growing stronger each day, and embracing her second chance at life.
